Which would you choose?

Hi mates. I'm going to buy a new TV for my living room and I have some doubts about the model. I need some 42" TV like LG 42LB730V or Sony Bravia KDL-42W828. For my budget (around 600 €) I think there are the best options.

Which one will you choose? They are 2014's model because new 2015 models are too expensive yet. Which one do you think has the best panel and quality image?

I'll use it for see normal channels and put some pendrive with movies and series in HD.

Thanks in advance.

But the LG gots 200 Hz vs 100 Hz of the Sony right? It's a IPS panel VS VA panel. I thought LG would be better.

You thought wrong.
All panels no matter the marketing are 60Hz panels.

VA is superior to IPS in TVs since you get much more contrast.

Also check the lag : http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

I advise you to wait for 2015 C models from Sony first.

Finally I brought the LG 730V. In my country isn't any retailer who has or have planned to has in the future any Sony's 2015 series. And the prices are too high at this moment. I need the TV now so I decided to bought the tv.

Anyway thanks for your help Proyal.

I disagree Proyal. I have already the LG in my house and it's a good 1080p TV. Good quality image if you calibrate it well (in this video you have the optimal settings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yzGlRMsLps ).

The LG also include a HEVC decoder so I won't need a new TV if it's implemented.

I'm sure Sony is a good TV too but I'm very happy with my purchase ;)

An IPS will never ever give the contrast of a VA.

Second all HEVC a.k.a x265 is inferior to x264 in terms of details. (lower file size yes but details in the video get blurred or deleted compared to x264)

So there is no use for x265 on 1080p unless you want to watch blurred videos with low size.

Moreover :

Losses from TV business.

This tells you how "good" LG is, regarding quality (it's not good at all)

I'm not sure if you have something against LG but it's not so trash as you might think. What I'm saying is that in this particular model (730V) it has a good picture quality.

I know than VA panels has better blacks and contrast than an IPS panel. But the IPS panels has some strong points too.

About the HEVC codec probably it loose quality instead of x264 but maybe in the future it will be implemented anyway and I won't need a new decoder if that happens.

I'm glad you prefer Sony (or any mark) against LG but I can tell you than the 42LB730V is a good TV. Of course it has strong and weak points but also an excellent quality image in my opinion. And also some interesting features.
