Macbook Pros to get Retina displays
Retina displays coming to Apple's new Macbooks

The coming Apple Macbook Pros will be the first consumer PCs to utilize extremely high pixel resolution, often referred to as Retina displays on Apple products, 9to5mac claims.

Retina displays in new Macbooks

Apple is preparing to release new Macbook Pro models with a range of new features, most noticeably Retina displays with extremely high pixel resolution, according to an extensive report from 9to5mac.com who has talked to inside sources.

The pixel count has not been specified (likely around 2880x1800 pixels) but the source describes the display as ”jaw-dropping” and ”definitely the most important innovation in years”. Despite the extremely high resolution, icons and letters on the Macbook screens will have the same size – only more detailed. Users will even be able to scale elements to their liking. This is possible because the pixels are so dense.

Apple first introduced a “Retina display” in the iPhone 4, and later in the iPad 3. Apple’s retina moniker refers to a display where pixel density exceeds the human eye's ability to distinguish details. The new iMacs and Macbook Airs are also rumored to receive Retina displays with the next update.

If the report is true, Apple could take display technology in PCs to the next level, and possibly push the entire industry into adopting better display technology.
