PlayStation 3 is now ready for 3D gaming. It seems that Sony has forgotten to tell us how to enable 3D, however. Here is a guide with 6 easy steps telling you how to enable 3D on Sony Playstation 3.

How to enable 3D on your PlayStation 3

3D works on all PlayStation 3 consoles; the old large one, and the newer thinner PS3. To get a 3D effect with PlayStation 3 you obviously also need a 3DTV.

6-step guide:
  1. Turn on your PlayStation 3 and go into Settings -> System Update. Download the latest 3.530 update.
  2. Go into Settings -> Display Settings -> Video Output Settings. Start a new search.
  3. PS3 now tell you that your TV supports 1080p. Click again, and PlayStation 3 tell you that your TV supports 3D. Adjust the size of the TV.
  4. There’s a 3D pack in the PlayStation Store now that you can buy. It contains four 3D games. If you already own the games, you can just update them by starting them up. You can also playback 3D Blu-ray movies.
  5. Install the 3D games and open one of them. Update the game like PS3 suggests.
  6. Turn on your 3D glasses and enjoy the 3D experience.

The following 3D games are included in the 3D package:
  • Wipeout HD
  • Motorstorm Pacific Rift 3D demo
  • PAIN
  • Super Stardust HD

In the Motorstorm 3D demo, you can choose either 2D or 3D gaming. In Wipeout PlayStation 3 pops up with a screen asking if you want to enable 3D gaming. If you can’t select 3D go back to the second step in the list above.

We will publish a follow up article with our experiences with 3D gaming on PlayStation 3 on the Samsung 3DTV (C8705) and LG 3DTV (LX950N).
