OLEDs make crazy futuristic concepts possible

Samsung is the standard-bearer of not just OLED technology but also flexible OLED displays and transparent OLEDs. But why do we need it? Samsung imagines new possibilities and has highlighted some concepts in a presentation that oled-display.net has gotten hold of. Audi has also made a concept car with OLED lights.

Future OLED concepts

Over the past few years we have seen some really cool OLED concepts (for example one from LG & Nokia). The first OLED-TVs are coming later this year but Samsung has also started to mass produce flexible OLED panels and transparent OLED panels . Samsung has collected some futuristic OLED concepts that will be made possible by the new technologies and we take a look at the concepts here.

Credit card screen

A credit card has the same size as most smartphones so why not combine the two? A NFC-enabled smartphone would without doubt be a better solution but it is an interesting concept that a flexible OLED panel could enable.

Camera with rollable screen

Most camcorders come with built-in display panels. In the future the display could hide inside the camcorder – made possible by a rollable OLED panel.

Portable scanner

How often do you take pictures of a text to remember it? Why not just carry around a portable scanner with a rollable OLED panel?

Alarm clock with built-in lamp

The OLED technology is more than a display technology. It is also a very promising lighting technology that could replace today’s light diodes. This concept combines an alarm clock, OLED screen and a lighting solution.

The mood-spreading umbrella

Umbrellas are used in cloudy and rainy weather so why not have umbrellas that lights up your path and shows a clear sky? It is a pretty lame concept but an interesting thought.

Treadmill

Turn your daily run into a happy one with this all-screen OLED treadmill that can imitate nature. You could also consider the real thing but it is a funny idea.

A talkbox

With the talkbox concept people can communicate with each other even though they speak different languages or use a different communicative method. It is made possible by a round, transparent OLED screen.

The site oled-display.net has even more concepts from Samsung’s presentation; all with OLED as a cornerstone. Even though most of the concepts are pretty lame it is an interesting look into a new world where OLED screens can enable completely new products and applications. It is closer than we suspect.

Audi and lights

Let us conclude this article by looking at one of Audi’s new concepts. Audi has created a concept car that utilizes OLED lighting panels.
