Amazing 155-inch OLED from Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi goes through the roof with their gigantic 155-inch OLED screen that has been exhibited earlier this year at CEATEC exhibition in Japan. The huge OLED screen is made up of smaller OLED modules.

Mitsubishi has showcased what is theoretically the world's largest flat panel screen. We say theoretically because the screen is composed from smaller OLED modules. With its 155 inches the Mitsubishi OLED screen beats Panasonic's previous record of 150 inches on a plasma-Tv.

While the huge 155-inch OLED screen is composed of a mosaic of smaller OLED panels, it is still an impressive piece of craftsmanship. Previously a large screen made up of smaller modules would mean that you would get black lines at the intersections but on the 155-inch OLED panel the smaller 1.5-inch OLED panels leaves no black joints, and creates the illusion of one big screen.

And the screen can get even bigger says Mitsubishi. It's just a matter of adding more modules on the OLED screen (or fewer). The many small OLED panels also means that you can create a curved screen

The imposing OLED screen does have some issues, however, and Mitsubishi says that the resolution is still quite limited - without mentioning what it actually is. Durability on the small OLED panels is also shorter than on the LCD and plasma technology. Mitsubishi mentions a lifetime of around 20,000 hours.

It is the first time that the OLED technology has surpassed 40-inches. Today manufacturers have trouble creating 32-inch OLED-TV for the consumer market. The 155-inch screen can be delivered now but is primarily aimed for outdoor use.
