LG unveils LW9800 Nano LED range with Cinema 3D

We already knew that LG was planning to use Cinema 3D in their Nano TVs – but now it is official. LG has unveiled their new high-end LW9800 range with Nano LED technology and Cinema 3D (passive 3D).

We are nearing a launch of LG’s full backlit LED models with the Nano filter technology. LG has just announced their new high-end model LW9800 (that replaces LW9500).

The new Nano TVs have an extremely slim design with almost zero bezel space. The slim design has been achieved even though LG has incorporated a full LED backlight with local dimming – called Nano.

LW9800 incorporates LG’s proprietary Nano technology, with very tiny “nano” holes that can let light pass through. This Nano filter enables full local dimming and ensure that no clouding or bleeding occurs. With local dimming LG can control light output in zones on the panel for extremely deep black levelso. LG claims that the 55-inch Nano TV has as many as 280 local dimming zones.

Furthermore, LW9800 incorporates Cinema 3D technology. The Cinema 3D technology is a passive 3D technology, meaning it is based on cheap polarized 3D glasses instead of expensive active 3D glasses with batteries. We have already tested LG’s LW6500 range with Cinema 3D and were much impressed with the new 3D technology. 2D-to-3D conversion is also available.

The TVs will be available in 47 and 55 inches called 47LW9800 and 55LW9800. Both models come with Smart TV with TV Apps and video-on-demand services. The TVs also come with 400/480 Hz, built-in Wi-Fi and Magic Remote support.

LG will exhibit LW9800 for the first time at IFA 2011 in Berlin from September 2-7. LW9800 replaces the previously-announced LW9500 model from LG. FlatpanelsHD will be there, so stay tuned.
