Hitachi feels the pressure from competing TV manufacturers and has planned to end domestic TV production in Japan. Instead Hitachi plans to outsource their TV production to Taiwan and other overseas locations.

Sony has just announced that they plan to reform their TV business and Hitachi seems to be next in line. The once successful Japanese TV maker has especially faced intense competition from South Korean TV makers such as Samsung and LG. Hitachi also blames slowing demand and falling TV prices

Hitachi plans to end their Japanese production of TV products and instead outsource production to mostly Taiwanese production companies. However, Hitachi says that they have no plans to get out of the TV business but they have to react on the difficult market conditions.
Hitachi has been making TVs since the mid-fifties. In 2008 they joined forces with Panasonic and Toshiba to produce LCD-TV panels based on an IPS panel technology. Later in 2008 Hitachi withdrew from the plasma TV market.
What the outsourcing strategy means to Hitachi’s LCD-TV line-up is not clear at this point.
