ViewSonic shows 31.5" PC monitor with 4K resolution

ViewSonic has showcased an impressive prototype monitor. The 31.5-inch monitor has a massive 3840x2160 pixel resolution. Price? About the same as a car.

ViewSonic 4K PC monitor

Many PC users long for higher-resolution monitors without pixelated text reproduction. ViewSonic’s new prototype 4K PC monitor delivers that.

The screen is dubbed VP3280-LED and measures 31.5-inches in size. It is based on a LCD panel with 10 bit color reproduction. The 8.8 million pixels translate into pixel density of 150 ppi, which should surpass the human eye’s capacity to distinguish details from a typical monitor viewing distance.

However, the monitor also exposes the limitations of today’s cable standards, as it requires either 2 dual-link DVI cables or 2 DisplayPort cables to run at full resolution.

ViewSonic VP3280 LED has been designed for movie studios, video editing and other professional applications. And it is as expensive as it sounds. The price is "roughly the same price as a car". We hopefully see more – and cheaper - consumer-oriented high-resolution PC monitors soon.
