Philips launches 40" 4K monitor with DisplayPort

If you are looking for a seriously huge screen for your desktop this new Philips 40-inch monitor with 4K resolution might be worth a look. It will be available in Europe in December for around 800 Euro.

A 40-inch 4K monitor for your desktop

It is not unusual to see 4K monitors around 30 inch sizes, but it is not often that PC monitors are released in TV formats. Nevertheless, this is the case with new Philips BDM4065UC.

The monitor has to be connected to a PC via a DisplayPort connector, which is the only connection in the monitor that supports 3840x2160 pixels at 60 Hz. Philips envisions several difference usage scenarios, but believes that graphics and photography will benefit the most from the huge screen size. A MultiView function can automatically divide the screen into four windows; each in Full HD.

The monitor is based on a VA panel type – most often found in TVs. VA panels are characterized by relatively high contrast and black levels, but narrow viewing angles. The monitor can also be connected to game consoles or movie player via the HDMI 1.4 port. However, it does not support Ultra HD at 60 fps via HDMI.

Philips will release the BDM4065UC in most European markets in mid-December for around 800 Euro, depending on your region.
