Video: Philips goes in-depth with new P5 video processor

17 Mar 2017 | Rasmus Larsen |

Philips has developed an entirely new P5 video processor, which has up to 50% better performance, for its high-end 2017 TVs. Watch Philips’ picture quality guru, Danny Tack, go over everything.

Philips’ P5 processor explained

Danny Tack is the brain behind Philips’ picture processing. He has been spearheading development long before Philips TV became part of TP Vision, and is still deeply involved in the work. The new P5 processor will be available in high-end 2017 TVs, including Philips’ 2nd generation OLED TV .

P5 delivers up to 50% better performance, says Philips, and focuses on 5 key areas:
  • Source
  • Sharpness
  • Colors
  • Contrast
  • Motion

The video starts off with an overview of the 2017 TV line-up. In the video, Danny Tack goes over some highly technical stuff, including details that are not usually shared with the outside world.

    One takeaway

If you have too much to do, too little time, here is the message summed up in one photo. The picture below shows the improvements and new processes in video chain that the P5 processor offers compared to the old ’Perfect Pixel Ultra HD’ engine.
