Eizo announces the ColorEdge CG242W color calibration LCD monitor. This 24.1-inch widescreen monitor is designed for both still and moving image graphics work including pre-press, digital photography, video editing, and post-production.
The ColorEdge CG242W has a native resolution of 1920 × 1200 (16:10 aspect ratio). The maximum brightness is 270 cd/m², contrast ratio is 1100:1, and horizontal and vertical viewing angles are 178°. The wide gamut LCD panel reproduces 97% of the Adobe RGB color space which is often used in printing and digital photography. It also reproduces color spaces used in broadcasting such as PAL/SECAM, SMPTE-C, and HDTV.
The ColorEdge CG242W offers hardware calibration so the monitor itself is calibrated rather than the computer’s graphics board. This ensures no tones are lost in the calibration process and results in accurate on-screen color. EIZO’s ColorNavigator calibration software1 is bundled with the monitor and is used for setting the target values for brightness, white point, and gamma. ColorNavigator works with a measurement device2 to directly utilize the monitor’s 12-bit look-up table for accurate calibration in less than five minutes.

A 3D look-up table improves the panel’s additive color mixture (combination of red, green, and blue), a key factor in its ability to achieve gray balance or a neutral gray tones. This means that if the monitor is set to a specific color temperature such as 5000 K, all grayscale tones from 0 – 255 will be 5000 K.
To counteract the brightness and chroma uniformity errors characteristic of LCD panels, the ColorEdge CG242W comes with EIZO’s Digital Uniformity Equalizer (DUE) function. DUE ensures the entire screen will be practically uniform at each gray level.
16-bit internal processing produces smooth display of grayscale tones. This brings out a high level of detail in dark areas of an image, which are typically problematic for LCD monitors to display.
DisplayPort and DVI-I inputs are included for connection to two PCs. The DisplayPort3 input provides a digital interface through a high-bandwidth connection. The DVI-I input accepts both analog and digital signals. The DVI-I input also supports high bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) for viewing of content from HDCP-equipped devices.

EIZO calibrates each unit of the ColorEdge CG242W at its factory in Japan to produce a gamma curve of 2.2. EIZO measures every tone from 0 – 255 to produce a gamma curve of 2.2, and includes an adjustment certificate in the packaging to verify the results.
Additional Features
82 mm height adjustment, 40° tilt, 70° swivel, and 90° pivot for portrait display.
Simulates two types of color vision deficiency – protanopia and deuteranopia – for verification
of how color schemes appear to those with color blindness4. All simulation is done in real time
for both still and moving images, making it a practical alternative to software-based tools.
6 ms midtone response time for smooth playback of moving images.
USB 2.0 hub with one upstream and two downstream ports.
Compliance with TCO’03 and TÜV Rheinland/Ergonomics.
Monitor hood to shield the screen from ambient light and screen cleaner kit are bundled.
Five-year warranty5.
Availability
The ColorEdge CG242W will begin shipping in December 2008. Date of availability varies by country so please contact the EIZO subsidiary or distributor in your country for details. Visitors to Photokina 2008 to be held in Cologne, Germany can have a first look at the ColorEdge CG242W in the EIZO booth located in Hall 4.1 F038.
