Sony has started to prepare for the launch of four new LCD TV series on the European market. These are the S, V, W and Z lines; this time called S5500, V5500, W5500 and Z5500. Even though Sony has not released many details Flatpanelshd.com has intercepted some information and details on the new TV series.

Z5500
At IFA 2008 back in September Sony presented the Z4500 series. It was the world's first TV with a 200 Hz circuit designed to ensure minimal trailing and very fluid images. Sony expects to replace this model in May / June with the new Z5500 series that will be launched on the European market. The model is the step up from the W series, and thus a very exciting new TV.

The Z5500 series utilizes Sony's new picture processor BE3 (Bravia Engine 3), Motionflow 200 Hz, Live Color Creation and has support for 10-bit Deep colour. Sony also mentions Internet functionality, but does not elaborate. It could be a Youtube or movie-streaming feature, or it might just be a RSS feed news system.

The Z5500 series will have 4 HDMI inputs and the wireless streaming DLNA system.

On the US market a 32 inch model has been mentioned, but it has not been confirmed for Europe. The Z5500 series will be available in 40” (KDL-40Z5500), 46” (KDL-46Z5500) and 52” (KDL-52Z5500) from July 2009

W5500
The very popular W series will also be replaced. The current model is called W4500 and is on the market at the moment. With W4500 Sony introduced the 100Hz system in the W series for the first time, and now Sony intends to carry on with the new W5500 series.

One of the new things in the W5500 series is a new, more powerful picture processor from Sony. It is called Bravia Engine 3 (BE3) and has been improved over the Bravia Engine 2 Pro, which currently exists in the high-end X4500 series. The W5500 also feature Internet functionality and of course Full HD panels.

The TV’s also has a USB input on the side of the frame.

The new Sony W5500 series is expected in March / April 2009 in sizes; 32” (KDL-32W5500), 37” (KDL-37W5500), 40” (KDL-40W5500), 46” (KDL-46W5500) and 52” (KDL-52W5500). More information will soon be revealed here on FlatpanelsHD.

V5500
The V series has, in recent years, gone from being one of the mid-end series to one of the cheaper model series. Now Sony has a new V5500 line ready.

The new TVs will feature the DLNA system, too, and 4 HDMI inputs.

V5500 series is also expected in March / April 2009 in 32” (KDL-32V5500), 37” (KDL-37V5500), 40” (KDL-40V5500), 46” (KDL-46V5500) and 52” (KDL-52V5500) - all with Full HD panels.

S5500
The inexpensive S series will soon feature a new, updated member which will replace the previous models, typically found at the large electronic dealers and in warehouses.
The series will be called S5500 and it is another new Full HD set, which - like its big brother, the V series - might also be available in a 37 inch model.

The S5500 series will feature the Sony Bravia Engine 2 picture processor, which are expected to increase image quality considerably compared to the current S models.

S5500 launches in 22” (KDL-32S5500), 26” (KDL-26S5500), 32” (KDL-32S5500), 37” (KDL-37S5500) (possibly) and 40” (KDL-40S5500) in March / April.

VE5 and more to come
Sony also has a new VE5 series ready for Europe. Here Sony focuses on green technology to reduce power consumption. There will be more on the VE5 series here on Flatpanelshd.com soon.

The new X series (X5500) will be available at the end of 2009.
