LG will start mass producing the OLED panels for their 55-inch OLED-TV in July 2012, LG confirms in a report.

The initial capacity will be 8000 substrates per month that can be cut into 48,000 55-inch OLED-TVs per month. LG plans to invest 4 trillion Won (around $3.6 billion) in OLED production this year. Further investments for 2013 and forward will be decided in the third quarter after LG has evaluated the market reaction to their OLED-TV.

The launch date and price remains unconfirmed. LG previously said “the second half of 2012” but with mass production starting up in July 2012, a Q3 2012 or early Q4 launch is not impossible.

LG’s spokesperson also says that they are very excited after the extremely positive response at CES 2012. Learn more about LG 55EM9600 here.
