LG has unveiled their 2012 TV line-up, and FlatpanelsHD gives you the full overview. LG emphasizes the new Borderless design, a new Smart TV platform controlled by the Magic Remote with voice support, Google TV, and Cinema 3D. Expect to see LG’s first 55-inch OLED-TV and LG’s first 4K TV later in 2012, as well as new LED and plasma ranges. For prices see the bottom.
LG’s 2012 TV line-up
In 2012, LG will introduce three TV technologies; LCD, plasma and OLED. You can expect to see extremely slim and elegant design with almost zero bezel width.
LG’s 2012 TV line-up
LG highlights their new Nano LED technology inside the flagship LM9600 LED model. With Nano technology LG can control the panel in zones to achieve extremely deep black levels and still create an extremely slim TV. The plasma TVs will achieve 40 % deeper blacks and reduced power consumption, and LG’s 55-inch OLED-TV that will be available in the second half of 2012, will set new standard for picture quality, LG says. In 2012 LG will also release their first TV with 4K resolution with the 84-inch LM9600 model.
LG’s 2012 TV line-up
Smart TV is still a key feature for LG, and in 2012 dual-core processors will be introduced in the high-end models. Even the TVs without dual-core are considerably faster, LG promises. A new user interface has been introduced with a pop-up bar at the bottom that will make the Smart TV platform seem more integrated. The My Apps bar can pop up at any time just by pressing the apps button on the remote. Later in 2012, LG also plans to introduce their first Google TV based Smart TV dubbed G2.
LG’s new Smart TV platform
LG has a range of new services planned for 2012, and the Smart TV platform is extended with voice dictation. The voice dictation feature will aid users while searching but has not been extended to the entire platform yet. A new Magic Motion Remote is also coming and is now bundled with all mid-end to high-end TVs.
LG’s new Magic Motion remote
The Magic Motion remote lets you control the Smart TV functionality on-screen by waving your hand, just like on a Nintendo Wii. The remote no longer requires you to point directly at the screen either. A small microphone has been integrated in the Voice variant for the two LM8600 and LM9600 TVs. Lastly, LG highlights SmartShare 2.0 that lets users “push” for example pictures from a smartphones or tablet onto the TV screen – as long as the smartphone/tablet comes with WiDi technology.
LG introduces Smart Share
LG still believes that their Cinema 3D technology is the best 3D solution available. The passive 3D system relies on cheap polarized 3D glasses without batteries, which also means that the glasses are 100 % flicker-free. Cinema 3D has been incorporated in all mid to high-end 2012 TVs, expect for the plasma TVs that come with active 3D technology.
LG’s passive 3D glasses
When it comes to design, LG has made a real effort in 2012. The bezel has been reduced to almost nothing, and the minimalistic frame is described as “floating in free air”. Even LG’s plasma TVs have become very slim and the OLED-TV will be one of the thinnest TVs ever seen.

Lastly, LG mentions some new accessory products, including cheap 3D glasses in a myriad of colors and shapes, a Skype camera for voice call and a slim wall mounting solution.
