Google has launched its Google Play Movie & TV app for iOS. The new app lets you watch rented or purchased content on an iPhone, iPod or iPad, but the app itself has several missing features compared to the Android version.
With several compromises
It is always nice to have the choice, and with the new Google Play Movies & TV app for iOS you can playback movies and TV series from Google’s TV store on your iOS device. The app looks and feels fairly similar to the Android version, but unfortunately there are several features missing.
For starters, you cannot purchase anything. If you want to rent or purchase new movies you have to do it on an Android or PC. Only afterwards will you be able to watch it on your iPad or iPhone. The app supports Chromecast casting, which is nice if you own the TV dongle, but there is no Airplay support. Also, you cannot stream over 3G/4G, only WiFi, and perhaps more importantly you cannot download content for offline use.
We hope that Google will address some of the issues in later updates, but for now you can download the Google Play Movies & TV app in the App Store here.
