Danish Libratone has unveiled a new speaker called DIVA. The soundbar is designed for use with a TV, but it also has a range of music streaming services built-in, including Airplay and Spotify Connect.
Libratone DIVA is a new soundbar
Libratone launched the Lounge speaker a few years ago, but DIVA is the first actual soundbar designed specifically for TVs. Its soft rounded edges make it look great in modern living rooms, says Libratone.
DIVA can be connected to the TV via optical cable. You can control the audio volume with the bundled remote or via your TV remote if it can learn infrared commands. There is also an app for smartphones that lets you adjust the sound profile.
In addition, there is a range of music streaming services built into DIVA, including Airplay, DLNA, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect and HTC Connect. This makes it easy to stream music from a smartphone or tablet. If you own an Apple TV you can also wirelessly stream TV audio from for example Netflix or iTunes via Airplay.
- "Despite its sleek design and relatively small footprint, Libratone DIVA is very powerful. Packed with high quality components and 200W digital amplification, it easily fills a large room with great sound" says Jan McNair, Libratone COO
The soundbar is also capable of imitating surround sound – what Libratone calls 360-degree Full Room sound – using several speaker units and reflectors shaped as seashells, which helps spread sound in your living room. There is also a built-in subwoofer, which should add depth to movie sound.
Libratone DIVA is sold with a "Black Pepper" wool cover and other covers can be bought separately. It will be available in Europe mid-October for Ł649. No details regarding a US launch have been announced yet. A wall bracket is included.
