TCL, China’s largest TV brand, has announced three new TV ranges with built-in Roku for the US market. The S3700, S3800, and S3850 will be available in the coming months. New 4K models will also start shipping later this year.
TVs with Roku built in
You might already be familiar with Roku, the small media players that compete with other devices such as Apple TV. Last year, the first TV manufacturers started implementing Roku in TVs, and here are TCL’s second-generation Roku TVs.
The S3700 will be available in a 32” 32S3700 for $219, a 48” 48S3700 for $429, and a 55” 55S3700 for $598, starting in late March / early April. The 32” is a 720p TV whereas the two larger TVs use 1080p panels. They will be sold through major retailers, including Amazon.
The Roku platform probably has the most complete app catalogue of any TV platform right now. It currently offers apps for most popular services, including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant, HBO GO, Watch ESPN, Hulu Plus, and many more.
TCL will also release a S3800 series in 32, 40, 48, and 55 inch sizes, and a S3850 “Decorator” series in 32, 40, 48, and 55 inch sizes in the second quarter of 2015. The S3800 has a slim, modern design and the S3850 has a frame with a metallic finish and an aluminum stand. No prices were announced.
Later this year, TCL will release its first 4K Ultra HD TVs with built-in Roku, but no details are available yet.
The line consists of the 32-inch 32S3700 ($219), the 48-inch 48S3700 ($429) and the 55-inch 55S3700 ($598)
