Slingbox announced its M1 exactly one ago and here is the next version of the box that lets you stream your TV channels to any device at home or abroad. Slingbox M2 is available now for $200.
Free apps with ads
The new Slingbox M2 looks almost identical to the old M1, and in fact it mostly is. Both boxes can hook up to your TV box and stream your TV channels and recordings to a phone, tablet or PC/Mac at home or abroad.
However, buying a M2 gives you free access to the apps on phones and tablets. M1 owners will have to pay $15 dollars per app per device. Instead, M2 places ads in the app but never on top of video, says Sling Media. M2 sells for $200 whereas M1 sells for $150.
- "Consumer media consumption is evolving at a faster rate than ever before. The new Slingbox M2 experience enables people to enjoy the live and recorded TV content they care most about, whether that's seeing who makes the game-winning play or catching a cliffhanger season finale. Now anyone can stay connected to their local news, events and sports, even if they're miles away from their home," said Michael Hawkey, senior vice president and general manager of Sling Media.
Sling Media says that setup is easier than ever, and that a major update for the mobile apps will be released later this year. The update includes usability enhancements, video quality improvements, a gallery viewing mode on iPhone and Android phones, and a faster TV guide. Using the app from an iPhone or Android phone also lets you wirelessly push channels to Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV or Roku.
