Samsung has announced its latest monitor named SE370, which comes in 24 and 27” sizes. It is the first of its kind with integrated wireless charging of mobile devices using the Qi standard.
Monitor with integrated Qi
Samsung says that its latest monitor “declutters work areas by doing away with unnecessary cables and ports needed to charge mobile devices”. Place a phone, for example one of Samsung’s latest Galaxy phones, on the stand and it will start charging.
- “Technology should support, not interfere with, active lifestyles. Our customers increasingly rely on mobile devices to obtain information and interact with others; so by doing away with the clutter on their desks, we are helping them to use their mobile devices in a smarter way,” said Seok-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung.
Besides the charging capabilities the two new monitors offers little new. Both are based on PLS panels - a type of IPS - with low resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The PLS type panels have wide viewing angles but poor contrast levels. The 4 ms response time should be fast enough for most use cases and combined with AMD FreeSync, Samsung believes even gamers will enjoy the monitors.
The monitors are compatible with Windows PCs and Apple Macs through HDMI, DisplayPort, and D-Sub. No words on pricing or availability yet.
