Oculus, the company that brought virtual reality technology back into the spotlight, will start taking pre-orders for its Rift headset on January 6, the company has announced.

And so it begins

Oculus Rift is the beginning of a new era for VR. The company that revived VR has been selling Rift developer headsets for a few years now, and the consumer product is almost here.

Oculus Rift pre-orders will open at 8am Pacific Time on January 6, the company has announced during CES 2016. You can pre-order your Rift from oculus.com. Strangely, Oculus has not yet revealed how much the Rift will cost. Pricing details will be revealed once pre-orders open together with shipping information. The headset is expected to be available in Q1 2016.

Oculus’ motion-enabled controller, Oculus Touch, on the other hand has been delayed until the second half of 2016. Instead, the Rift will ship with the Xbox controller.

To use Oculus Rift you also need a powerful PC. The company has said that a VR ready PC will cost $1000 dollars or more, and has released these minimum specifications.

The Oculus Rift comes bundled with the game Lucky’s Tale by Playful as well as EVE: Valkyrie by CCP. Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will be answering questions during a Reddit AMA on Wednesday, January 6 at 6pm Pacific Time.
