With Xbox One X, Microsoft will introduce 3 new logos that will help buyers confirm if a game is presented in 4K and HDR. Gears of War 4, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, and Forza Motorsport 7 will be some of the first ’Xbox One X Enhanced’ games.
Xbox games in 4K & HDR
Console games for both PlayStation and Xbox need to be updated to take advantage of the extra graphics muscles in PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. These updates can include 4K resolution, HDR, high frame rate (HFR), and other updated assets.
When shopping for new Xbox games, look for these 3 logos. The logos will be used across Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and Windows 10. See the table at the bottom for more information.
Microsoft and game studios have so far named 50 games that will be ’Xbox One X Enhanced’. This typically involves 4K and HDR but neither format is mandatory.
On the list of existing games that will be updated are Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, and Halo Wars 2. In addition, some future titles have been confirmed, including Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Forza Motorsport 7, and Playerunknown's Battlegrounds.
With PS4 Pro and Xbox One X game consoles are entering the next phase. Microsoft claims that Xbox One X is significantly more powerful than Sony’s ditto but it appears that even on the Xbox some games will struggle to hit 4K resolution at a high frame rate. HDR is a more universal improvement and one area where game consoles are a few steps ahead of the PC ecosystem.
