Philips and B&W team up to improve TV audio

19 Jun 2018 | Rasmus Larsen |

The two companies have teamed up to “set new reference visual and audio performance standards in the TV market” as part of a multi-year exclusive agreement. The first result will be unveiled at IFA.

B&W speakers in Philips TVs

The respected British audio engineering company B&W – Bowers & Wilkins – will help develop and tune speakers in future Philips high-end TVs.

- ”For far too long, as an industry, we have allowed sound quality to be the poor relation when considering TV performance. A challenge that has been further exaggerated by the outstanding quality of our OLED sets. So, I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with the World’s best audio company Bowers & Wilkins to ensure that in future our Philips High End TV sound will offer a uniquely premium experience,” said Martijn Smelt, Chief Marketing Officer, TP Vision Europa.

B&W expects that the partnership will “redefine the parameters of sound quality & performance on a TV”. TP Vision, who is responsible for the Philips TV brand in Europe, added that the goal is to combine the best picture and audio quality in a Philips TV.

- ”Our new partnership with TP Vision presents a fantastic opportunity to help redefine the parameters of sound quality & performance on a TV. The superb new line of Philips TVs will introduce our well-known audio performance to a new consumer audience who will be able to enjoy first-hand, the incredible experience only we can provide, ‘Sound by Bowers and Wilkins,” said Richard Campbell, CRO, Bowers & Wilkins.

TP Vision announced its first Philips OLED TV in late 2016. The company has since added additional models to the top end of its TV line-up. The OLED TVs are also equipped with the signature Ambilight feature.

The companies promised to give us the “first glimpse of the potential” at the IFA show in Berlin in September. TP Vision has already unveiled the Philips OLED803 model but it comes with hidden integrated speakers so we should probably expect something else. FlatpanelsHD previously found references to an unknown OLED903 model.
