James Cameron's Titanic from 1997 will be released on UHD Blu-ray tentatively in June 2022, according to an insider. Is Avatar next?
Titanic in 4K HDR
Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, is one of the best-selling movies of all time. The movie is directed by James Cameron who has on more than one occasion promised to bring his movies to UHD Blu-ray.
Not many details are known at this time but the Titanic UHD Blu-ray disc release is tentatively scheduled for June 2022, according to twitter user and insider GeekGab.
Titanic is the third-highest grossing movie of all-time at the global box office
In 2017, James Cameron and his team released a remastered Dolby Vision version of Titanic in Dolby Cinema in the US. At the same time, Cameron revealed that "we’re also going to do a conversion of Avatar to HDR".
- "Seeing a film that everybody knows, but seeing it in HDR in 3-D with proper light levels on a Dolby Vision laser projector – it’s really a glimpse of the future... We had the whole film remastered in HDR, and it’s stunning. It’s beyond 70 millimeter, it’s beyond any format that you’ve seen before," James Cameron told Vanity Fair in 2017, referring to the remastered version of Titanic.
Disney acquired 21st Century Fox including film studio 20th Century Fox in 2019 and we would expect Titanic to also show up in 4K Dolby Vision on the Disney+ streaming service internationally (but probably not in the US where Paramount holds rights) as well as online storefronts such as Apple TV (iTunes) and Vudu.
So which James Cameron movie is next in line? Avatar? True Lies? Or perhaps The Abyss?
