Season 4 will have a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season and be split in two. Netflix has announced the release dates and confirmed that season 5 will be the last.
Update: The first part of Stranger Things 4 is now available to stream on Netflix in 4K Dolby Vision.

Global hit series Stranger Things will soon return to screens around the world with season 4. Nearly every episode is "super-sized", says Netflix. Stranger Things 4 will therefore be split in two. Volume 1 will premiere on May 27, 2022, and volume 2 on July 1, 2022. The new episodes will be available to enjoy in 4K Dolby Vision. There is no word on the audio format. Previous episodes have been available in 5.1 surround sound only. In addition, Netflix and the show's creators, the Duffer brothers, confirmed that season 5 will be the last. - "Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but -- as you'll soon see for ourselves -- we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last," said the Duffer brothers. Stranger Things is one of Netflix's biggest original shows and in the May to July timeframe it will compete for viewers' attention with one of Disney's most anticipated shows, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
