Netflix now lets you transfer your user profile to a new account

18 Oct 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

In its quest to combat account sharing, Netflix is introducing a Profile Transfer feature to let you transfer your viewing history, My List, game progress and more to a new account.

- "People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same. Today, we’re launching Profile Transfer, a feature that lets people using your account transfer a profile – keeping the personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings – when they start their own membership," said Timi Kosztin, Product Manager of Product Innovation, Netflix.

To transfer a profile, go to the "Transfer Profile" option when you hover over your profile icon in the dropdown menu on the homepage, and then follow the instructions.

The new feature is part of Netflix's initiative to combat account sharing. The company wants to charge users outside the home extra or persuade them to create their own Netflix subscription. However, the new feature can also serve other purposes such as making it possible for kids to transfer their user profile to a separate account when they grow up and move away. Netflix said that the new feature will roll out to all subscribers around the world starting this week.
