Starting this year, Major League Baseball (MLB) on Apple TV+ is no longer free and requires an Apple TV+ subscription. It is also expanding to be available in 60 countries – up from 13.
Apple has bought the rights to MLB and MLS matches. Last year, many MLB matches were free to watch in the Apple TV app whereas MLB recently launched as a season pass. Apple will now also start charging for MLB matches but it is a different subscription model than MLS. For MLB 'Friday Night Baseball' just need a regular Apple TV+ subscription ($7/month) which also includes TV shows like Ted Lasso, movies, and documentaries.
- "We can’t wait for ‘Friday Night Baseball’ to start up again, and we’re excited for fans to experience everything new we’re bringing this season," said Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Services. "Apple TV+ truly has something for everyone, from two live baseball games every Friday night, to an incredible slate of award-winning original films and series — there’s never been a better time to sign up."
Select sports programming, game recaps, highlights, classic games and interviews remain free on the Apple TV app that is available on Apple TV devices, many Smart TVs, FireTV, Roku, game consoles, and more devices.
There is still no news from Apple about 4K live streaming support.
