Samsung will bring cloud gaming apps to 2020 Smart TVs

24 Aug 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

Samsung has announced that cloud gaming apps will soon come to Smart TVs from 2020, although it did not provide full details.

The announcement was made at Gamescom 2023. Samsung will not bring the Gaming Hub interface to 2020 models but instead let owners install the cloud gaming apps individually from the app store.

- "Today, we are thrilled to announce that we will expand cloud gaming apps to our 2020 model-year TVs later this year, giving tens of millions of players access to their favorite games and services," said Mike Lucero, Head of Product Gaming, Samsung.

Samsung did not confirm which cloud gaming apps will be supported on 2020 models, but it is currently offering Xbox Game Pass, Nvidia GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, Utomik, and Blacknut, and Antstream apps. Various Bluetooth game controllers are supported.

Older TV models not supported

TV models from 2019 and earlier will not be supported, despite them being perfectly capable of supporting game streaming apps. Samsung does not offer Tizen upgrades for older models. The apps will arrive on 2020 models "later this year".
