0 input lag is what I was looking for. I ordered the VG236H about 2 minutes after reading the article.

Thanks Rasmus!

Hi i read a lot about trailing (like ghost-mark when an object or person moves fast leaving that weird "footprint"), but i think this not enterily a problem of a modern monitor i think is a problem of using the YUV mode with the videodecoders by default, instead of using the RGB mode ...i made a mini-guide how to eliminate this issue...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes when you see a fast-action movies or even walking fast persons with a specific background you can see the marks leaved by the movement of an object or a person, like marks of transparent ghosts behind the same object/people for a few moments called trailing..

Well this is cause by using the default YUV mode of the videodecoders like: UYVY(16bits),YUY2(16bits), YUV2(16bits), NV12(12bits), DXVA(12bits with Nvidia unknown with ATI), i420(12bits of color), that most videodecoders used but not the mode RGB (beware most free videodecoders dont have this option available), once we choose this RGB mode the trailing from the movie will go away completly (maybe you still can see it in pause mode but not during playback).

Here´s an example, during the movie Panic Room when Jodie Foster is taking a glass of wine from the floor very fast, you can see the trailing of the glass because of the use of the YUV mode, also this mode has 12 bits and 16 bits color mode and the rest of the info is achieved by mixing chroma and luma values, in order to reduce the use of your CPU, also you have to select the RGB32 mode not the RGB24 mode cuz theres problems in windows with this mode, could be that windows reserves that mode for the system, this RGB32 bits do not show any errors in the second image below...

If you see too dark the images below copy them to your computer and show them in full screen mode also increase the brightness, you can try another movie you remember with this deffect to notice the change, beware not all the people notice these deffects and think they are too relevant to change their videodecoders.

Now in the advance Nvidia video control panel (i dont know about ATI) there´s an option called Adjust Video Color Settings - with the Nvidia Settings that affect the colors, gamma, brightness, Dynamic Range 16-235 or 0-255, that not longer affect the video in RGB mode, you have to go now to Adjust Desktop Color Settings and choose - Use the Nvidia Settings if you want to change thse values now (i use my brightness to 47 of 50), if you see too dark or excessive bright the screen is possibly that Dynamic Range in not correctly choose, to change this value you have to go to your videodecoder options and select the Input mode - TV (16-235) and the Output mode - PC (0-255) to correct this like in the image below ...

This videodecoder it is only for movies with h264 or VC-1 codecs, not for AVIs (like DivX, Xvid codecs - MPEG4) neither DVDs (MPEG-2) or TS files (MPEG-2 also), this videodecoder is not free you have to paid to use it. For DVDs and TS files i use Bitcontrol Version 3.0 (not free) and here´s an image how to use the RGB32 mode...

Now for the Divx, Xvid (avi movies) i use the Fddshow videodecoder (this decoder also decode h264, VC-1 and DVDs and it is free) but the quality with the other formats is not as good as with the other decoders i use(CoreAVC, Bitcontrol), depends of you of course, also i change several settings in the videodecoder options to look more sharp and the image with good colors in avi movies, but this settings also affects negative the h264,vc1 or dvds movies, thats why i use other videodecoders as well, and only fddshow for avi...
Here´s an image choosing the RGB32 mode with Fddshow...

If you want to use my settings to see AVIs movies (Divx,Xvid) below are my settings but make first a copy of your fddshow config in case you don´t like them...

http://a.imageshack.us/img828/517/fd...eosettings.jpg

Well i hope you find this usefull and if you know about another free videodecoder besides the Fddshow please tell us too...

One final warning, the use of the CPU will be increase because of this mode but i think is worth the sacrifice, also i recommend the use of the Kmplayer cuz you can see exactly what videodecoders are in use and let you select which you prefer, plus gives you the correct information about what mode is in use RGB or YUV by pressing Ctrl+Tab...

Forgive my very bad english is not my native language...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please correct me if iam wrong, thats trailing right?, because i take it out completly once i change my video videodecoder settings and you can see the difference between the first and second picture i post it...

Thks & Rgds
