Gremlins will be released in 4K High Dynamic Range on UHD Blu-ray this October, according to pre-order pages on Best Buy.
Gremlins in 4K HDR
Gremlins was directed by Joe Dante, with Steven Spielberg serving as the executive producer. The comedy horror film premiered in 1984 and is by many considered a classic.
The story of the fuzzy little mogwai, bought as a Christmas present, as well as its many other Christmas themes, has also made it one of the more popular Christmas movies.
The movie will be rereleased in 4K HDR on UHD Blu-ray on October 1, 2019, according to pre-order pages on Best Buy. It will be available in a standard version and a steelbook. These will include an online digital copy, presumably in 4K HDR.
Warner Bros has yet to formally announce the release so details are scarce. We are chasing more information and will update this article accordingly, if we learn more.
No announcement has been made regarding Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
These years, Hollywood studios are hard at work restoring classics dating all the way back to the 40's. This is possible because the original film negatives can be rescanned at higher resolution and wider dynamic range to make them look better than the original cinema or Blu-ray release. Gremlins was shot on 35mm film.
Gremlins is listed for pre-order on Best Buy's website for $26. The steelbook version will cost $33. iTunes will most likely upgrade it to 4K HDR free of charge but details surrounding the online digital version have yet to be announced.
