23 Apr 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

First announced at CES, the Xbox app is now available on LG TVs from 2022 and later, enabling users to stream AAA games over the internet – no console needed.

Starting this week, the app is available in beta on LG Smart TVs and monitors with webOS 24 or newer. This includes both OLED and LCD models from 2022 onward. It is not why older TVs are not supported.

The Xbox app supports 24 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA.

AAA games – no console needed

The Xbox app was already available on newer Samsung Smart TVs and Fire TV devices. With the expansion to LG Smart TVs, more users can now play AAA titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Hogwarts Legacy directly on their TV – no Xbox console required. - "Conveniently accessible from the Gaming Portal2 and the LG Apps, the Xbox app enables LG TV owners to jump straight into gameplay from day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, launching hundreds of titles from Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, Xbox Game Studios and more – with just a compatible controller," announced LG.

How to get started

To get started, you need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a wireless game controller connected to the TV via Bluetooth. The Xbox app is available from LG’s app store or via the Gaming Portal section in webOS. Download it and log in with your Xbox user credential. Microsoft sees cloud gaming as the next step beyond physical consoles, enabling it to reach potentially billions of gamers, the company has said. The Xbox app joins other cloud gaming apps such as Nvidia GeForce Now, Amazon Luna and Boosteroid on LG's webOS.
