The new flagship TVs from Sony will be less expensive than feared. AF9 OLED starts at €2999 / Ł2999 while ZF9 LCD starts at €2999 / Ł3799.
Update: US pricing has also been announced. See the updated table below. Update 2: Sony UK has adjusted - or corrected? - the 65" ZF9 price.
Sony ’Master’ TVs
Sony will launch its most advanced OLED and LCD TVs to date in Europe this October. The ’Master’ TVs were unveiled in late July. At IFA 2018, Sony has released pricing details.
A 55-inch AF9 OLED will cost €2999 / Ł2999 while the 65-inch will cost €3999 / Ł3999, which is less expensive than we had anticipated.
Strangely, the 65-inch ZF9 LCD will be far more expensive in the UK than elsewhere in Europe. In the UK, a 65-inch ZF9 will set you back Ł3799 Ł2799 (update: Sony has adjusted - or corrected? - the price) and the larger 75-inch version will cost Ł4999. This compares to €2999 and €4999, respectively in Germany.
Both TV ranges feature 4K resolution, three HDR formats (HDR10, HLG & Dolby Vision), Android TV, CalMAN auto calibration, and ’Netflix Calibrated Mode’. They are part of the ’Master’ series that represents the best from Sony. The AF9 OLED also features ’Acoustic Surface+’, which uses the actual OLED panel as a 3-channel speaker membrane.
The new flagship TVs from Sony will compete head-to-head with OLED TVs from LG, Panasonic, and Philips as well as flagship LCD TVs from Samsung. At IFA 2018, LG and Samsung have announced the next step with 8K OLED and 8K LCD.
Sony AF9 and ZF9 will be among the highlights from Sony at the IFA 2018 show in Berlin. The TVs will be available in Europe from October. In the US, the TVs will be available for pre-order soon (A9F and Z9F).
