Panasonic's new OLED TVs will feature a 'Netflix Calibrated Mode', first introduced in Sony's high-end TVs, in an effort to "deliver ‘more‘ Hollywood to ‘more’ homes".
"Hollywood to your home"
Panasonic and Netflix today announced that Panasonic's 2019 line-up of OLED TVs (GZ2000, GZ1500, GZ1000 and GZ950) will support Netflix Calibrated Mode.
Netflix's display mode was first introduced in 2018 with the launch of Sony's "Master" series of high-end TVs. Panasonic is the second TV brand to embrace it. The mode has been calibrated to conform to the "way creators calibrate their monitors in post-production, bringing studio quality picture quality mastering right to the living room", Panasonic said.
- "Panasonic’s theme for 2019 has been to deliver ‘more‘ Hollywood to ‘more’ homes. We have done this by bringing Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos all the way down to our core-range models. With this collaboration with Netflix we are doing it again: bringing studio quality picture mastering to more viewers," said Yasushi Murayama, head of AV products, Panasonic Europe.
To use it you must use the built-in Netflix app. Here, you can activate the mode via a menu setting. It is perhaps worth pointing out that having your TV calibrated will produce similar results across all input sources and apps.
- "Quality means everything to us, and we're thrilled to bring Netflix Calibrated Mode to Panasonic's OLED TVs so our members have the choice to experience amazing storytelling on Netflix in the most authentic way," said Rob Caruso, VP of device partner engagements, Netflix.
