Sony has announced its 2020 line-up of 8K LCD TVs and 4K LCD TVs with full array local dimming as well as more affordable 4K TVs. A few of them feature HDMI 2.1 ports.

New Sony 8K LCD TVs

At CES 2020, Sony unveiled a series of new TVs. Headlining the 2020 LCD line-up is Z8H (ZH8), which comprises 75 and 85-inch 8K TVs. Last year's 98-inch Z9G (ZG9) will carry over into 2020. Sony said that Z8H (ZH8) features a full array local dimming system but declined to provide specifics relating to the number of dimming zones or peak brightness, except for saying that peak brightness exceeds 1000 nits. The new 8K TVs also feature Sony's 'X1 Ultimate' video processor and a new ambient optimization function that adjusts the "picture brightness to the ambient light in the room".

Sony confirmed that Z8H (ZH8) has HDMI 2.1, including support for 4K120. Furthermore, it features support for three HDR formats (HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision), Android 9, Dolby Atmos, Apple AirPlay 2, HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and a new frame tweeter audio system. - "The most immersive experience is realised through enhanced picture quality, slim design and Sound-from-Picture Reality with Sony’s new Frame Tweeter technology. The frame tweeter vibrates the frame of the TV to emit sound, giving customers the feeling that sound is coming directly from the screen," said Sony.

The company also introduced a full range of 4K LCD TVs, including X950H (XH95) and X900H (XH90), both with full array local dimming. These TVs will be available in sizes ranging from 49 to 85 inches. Sony declined to specify the number of dimming zones or peak brightness but said that its 95 series produces "6 times the contrast of our conventional LED TVs" and confirmed that it can exceed 1000 nits brightness. X900H (XH90) has lower peak brightness. X950H (XH95) has Sony's Flush Surface design that offers a "sleek, bezel-less look" on the 55, 65 and 75-inch models. It also features Sony's wide viewing angle technology (X-Wide Angle) that was introduced in previous models as well as improved speaker technology. X900H (XH90) does not feature the wide viewing angle system.
