Paramount has remastered the three classic movies and will rerelease them in 4K Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’ will be available as a 20th Anniversary Edition.
Three classics in 4K Dolby Vision
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan was first screened 20 years ago and will be released on UHD Blu-ray on May 8 as a 20th Anniversary Edition. Braveheart and Gladiator will be released on UHD Blu-ray on May 15.
The Digital Bits has confirmed with Paramount that all three movies have been scanned from film in full native 4K resolution. They were shot in 35mm.
The studio has also confirmed that all three will be presented in Dolby Vision. Saving Private Ryan and Braveheart will include Dolby Atmos audio whereas Gladiator will feature DTS:X.
You may recall that especially Gladiator had a fair amount of film grain on the HD Blu-ray version so it will be interesting to see how it looks on UHD Blu-ray.
These three movies are just the latest catalog titles to have been confirmed in 4K HDR. The Jurassic Park Collection, Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, and many others have also be rereleased in 4K HDR – and we expect many more throughout 2018 and beyond.
There is no word on the online release dates but usually movies become available online a few weeks prior to the release on UHD Blu-ray.
Gladiator is already listed on Amazon and the same goes for Braveheart (here). Saving Private Ryan should be online soon.
