Hulu now supports HDR on LG OLED TVs (webOS)

22 Aug 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

After introducing HDR streaming in mid-2021 on a few platforms, Hulu has added HDR support for LG's webOS-based OLED TVs and LCD TVs.

With its popular OLED TVs, LG likely has the largest installed base of TVs that can display proper HDR so it seemed like an oversight when Hulu in mid-2021 introduced HDR support only on Apple TV, FireTV, Chromecast, Roku and Vizio TVs, in addition to 4K support which came in 2016.

Sometime this month, Hulu flipped the switch on HDR support for webOS too so you can get the best streaming quality using the integrated Hulu app in your LG TV. It has been confirmed on Reddit to work with at least 2018 and later LG webOS models including the C series OLED TVs (C8, C9, CX, C1, C2).

Hulu currently supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Look for the HDR badge on the details page of content. Titles such as Prey, Only Murders in the Building, and The Handmaid's Tale are available in HDR on Hulu.

Majority-owned by Disney, Hulu has been slow to roll out widespread support for 4K and HDR as compared to Disney+. Hulu still does not support Dolby Atmos sound.
