LG announces 2024 "QNED" LCD TVs up to 98" with built-in Chromecast

28 Dec 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG has today announced its first 2024 models in the form of upgraded "QNED" LCD TVs with or without miniLED zone dimming and in sizes up to 98 inches.

QNED99T features 8K resolution in 75 and 86 inch sizes while QNED90T, QNED85T and QNED80T feature 4K resolution in sizes spanning 43 to 98 inches for the first time.

QNED90T and QNED99T feature miniLED zone dimming. LG's LCD TVs are usually based primarily on contrast-poor IPS LCD, but we expect the 98-inch to be built on the same 98-inch VA LCD panel from TCL found in all other 98-inch LCD TVs on the market at this time.

Samsung, Sony and TCL use mainly VA LCD panels – with somewhat better contrast – in their LCD TVs, including models with miniLED backlight.

New features for 2024

LG confirmed that its 2024 "QNED" LCD models (short for "Quantum Dot NanoCell Color") will run webOS 24, which we will learn more about at CES 2024 in January. However, LG is already revealing a major change to webOS; it will upgrade webOS in its TVs to the latest version for four years. More details can be found here. Another new feature in 2024 is built-in Chromecast meaning that LG's 2024 TVs will support both Apple AirPlay 2 and Chromecast to let you push content wirelessly from both Android and iOS devices onto the TV.

QNED99T features an Alpha 9 Gen processor that can use AI-trained algorithms to enhance video and audio, while QNED90T and QNED85T are equipped with a new Alpha 8 processor that has inherited many features from the Alpha 9. QNED80T features a less powerful Alpha 5 Gen 7 processor. - "The LG 2024 LG QNED TV lineup takes the viewing experience to a whole new level with an advanced processor that enables outstanding audio-visual experiences across various screen sizes, while also providing a personalized user experience tailored to each individual’s unique lifestyle and preferences," said Baik Seon-pill, head of LG HE Product Planning Division. "We remain committed to delivering an unparalleled customer experience, drawing upon our decade-long expertise with webOS."

Four HDMI 2.1 ports

LG confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that QNED99T, QNED90T and QNED85T for the first time will come with four HDMI 2.1-bandwidth ports, up from only two in recent years. QNED80T (60Hz panel) has three HDMI 2.0 ports. In addition, QNED99T supports WiFi 6. The stand on at least some of LG's 2024 models can be raised to accommodate a soundbar underneath. QNED85T and QNED80T have a slim profile of 29mm. More details and specifications can be found in the TV Database for QNED99T here, QNED90T here, QNED85T here and QNED80T here, or by clicking the model name in the table below. In the TV Database you can also compare features side-by-side by using the orange icon. Launch and pricing details will be announced later, but LG's new TVs usually become available in spring. The company will announce its 2024 OLED models in early January at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, where FlatpanelsHD will be in attendance.
